Major Changes to Women’s Health Care Beginning January 1, 2013

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides for significant changes in women’s health care starting January 1, 2013. Insurers will have to cover various women’s preventive health care screenings and services with no copayments and 100% cost coverage. These include screenings, counselings, and certain treatments for:

  • Breast cancer (including mammograms)

  • Anemia (routine screening during pregnancy)

  • Cervical Cancer (annual screening)

  • HPV (every 3 years for women over 30 years of age)

  • Hepatitis B (screening at first prenatal visit)

  • Sexually transmitted infections including HIV (annual)

  • Well-woman/Prenatal Care (annual or as needed)
