A Win for Language Access Rights of Farmworkers

The passing of California Assembly Bill 636 helps ensure H-2A visa farmworkers are properly informed about their legal rights in the workplace.

Beginning March 15, 2024, employers must provide all legally required employer disclosures translated in Spanish to H-2A visa farmworkers. Such necessary language access helps empower farmworkers to make informed decisions, assert their rights, and protect themselves from potential abuses from their employer. While the bill does not require such disclosures to be translated into other languages common to farmworker populations in California, this legal change is still a very valuable win for language access rights of farmworkers.
