Coverage of Preventive Health Services under the Affordable Care Act

On August 3, 2011, the Department of Labor, the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Health and Human Services issued amendments to the Interim Final Regulations regarding the coverage of preventive health services under the Affordable Care Act. The amendments were effective August 1, 2011, and generally apply to group health plans and group health insurers, including multiemployer health and welfare benefit plans. The Amendments provide guidelines on required coverage of women's preventive services, and also provide an exemption for religious employers with respect to coverage of contraceptive services. For more information regarding these Amendments, or health care reform in general, please contact your Trust Fund counsel.
